Elliott Insurance was founded in 1950 in Portland and evolved into Elliott, Powell, Baden and Baker, Inc. (EPB&B) in 1968. EPB&B is a full-service, locally-owned insurance agency offering options for Personal Lines (Home, Auto, Rentals, Boat, etc.), Commercial Lines (including but not limited to Aviation, Energy, Contractors, Manufacturing, Transportation, Hospitality, Wholesale and Retail, Marine, Workers Compensation), Bonds and Benefits. The agency moved to its current office in 1976 when, as a high school senior, now-President Marc Baker’s summer job was to paint the interior of the building that the agency purchased prior to moving in.
EPB&B has been named “Best Place to Work in the State of Oregon” two years in a row (2013, 2014) by the Oregonian/ Oregonlive and has been nominated again this year. This is a statewide award for businesses employing less than 150 people. “This is the award that I am most proud of,” says President Baker. EPB&B is also listed as the #3 insurance agency in the Portland Business Journal list of metro-area commercial insurance agencies and is the only locally-owned company in the top 4.
The company’s motto is “Vision for the Future, Service for Life” which is practiced each and every day through their business model based on local service, through staff involvement in the community and in associations, and through technological advancement to keep EPB&B at the forefront of efficiency.
EPB&B is one of the few remaining large, full-service, locally owned and operated brokers in Oregon. The company focuses on Pacific Northwest business but does write nationally. EPB&B specializes in technology and aviation related companies of all types (both manned and unmanned). Gorge representative Rick Sottile is a familiar face at GTA meetings and is often out serving his customers in the region.
EPB&B is a member of the GTA because they enjoy being around companies that are on the cutting edge of numerous technologies. “After 35 years in insurance, I’ve served a lot of different fields of technology,” says Rick Sottile. “The Gorge is a progressive, growing area in the technology arena and the GTA is a very good group for networking. It’s also a great way to learn information from different industries with the great cross-section of speakers at the events.”
